2000 VW Beetle 1.8 Turbo, Problem is no cruise control: Here's what I have done thus far:
1: Replace throttle module and successfully adapted it 2. Check all inputs in the Engine Control Module, Measuring Block, Data Block 66. Cruise switch, stop lamp switch and trans. speed sensor all pass muster. 3. Soooo, I was advised per the Eurodiagnositics board to "login" on the Engine Computer and change the cruise coding; the moderator suspsect that the cruise function has been turned off because the "G" variant on the engine conroller ID is missing. 4. Advised to login and enter code 11463 and this would turn the cruise feature "back on". Also note that the Ross Tech website corroborates this as well under their "enabling cruise control" feature.
Herein lies the rub: In the LAUNCH menu (from what I understand its an exception, all other scan tools don't require any more than a login #) I enter the login # 11463 and then the next window ask for dealer code....so I take a wild ass guess and punch in 00000 and then next window pops up requesting a Country code, so I take a second SWAG ( scientific wild ass guess) and punch in 444 and then the next menu window pops up auto filling today's date and then, drum roll please, press OK and uh oh....information incorrect pops up.
Now since these subsequent LOGIN steps are required only on the Launch, so I get no help from the board. The consensus is ...go get another machine....
What say you folks...let me ask straight up: Has any one on this board been able to LOGIN on ANY controller....I have tried numerous times on different controllers and NEVER have been able to get a LOGIN SUCCESS.
i recall reading somewhere that you could get a dealer code from the monroney lable (aka new car window sticker) at you local friendly vw dealership ....i do remember the dealer codes being written in really small print at the bottom of the window sticker when i worked for vw/audi..also try country code 21 or the letter U .....
.it's been a few years since my vw days and haven't had to code/ recode any modules since i left .... i forget most everything i learned there untill it's right in front of me and something gets triggered in my head ....hope this info helps and doesn't get you more frustrated ..regards paul
thanks tatsess, I was hoping you would reply...seeing you worked on these things straight off the ship and did a lot of the key replacements. I will try all the info you sent and see if i can "get in".
BTW, she just called and wants a key added to the car.....question, I know all about the SKC and how the dealer does straight dope downloads from Deutchland thereby making the SKC availability not possible...but......there is some talk on the boards about the SKC being on the a scratch and sniff type label on the clusters....have YOU ever seen one for yourself or is this an urban legend?
we always had to get the secret code from the nice girl in the head German's office ....i never knew of any codes being on the back of the cluster that would help get a key code ..sometimes there was a number on the key tag itself but i can't rember if that was a vin or an immobilizer number....none of the other techs from the other ports with way more vw / Audi experience and lots of tricks ever pointed anything out to me on the lable ....there was a serrated lable back there that we handed in when we would replace any module ( cluster, radio, srs immobilizer, airbags ...etc )..I think that was the new part's label we handed in with the car's VIN so the factory would know to change the info for the car NOW in case the part needed to be replaced again at the dealer in a few years
.....the nice girl would give us a code to adapt the cluster(immobilizer) to the ecm...if i remember that's what you will be doing when you erase all the keys in order to add a new one ....the code was good for 24hrs or maybe just the same day..i can't remember
after 2005 with the new body styles and long coding and more confusion for me we were given passwords and direct "factory" access via FAZIT to get our own numbers to input for coding
how are you going to physically cut the key to fit the lock cylinder ?..do you have a key cutting machine?

Hi Shazam,
I forwarded this information to Launch for you and this is the reply I got back from a engineer:
"For 2000 VW Beetle 1.8 Turbo, when you enter system, the menu is following 11 Login->”5pin code” and ”7pin code”
If the customer choose the ”7pin code” menu, he needs to input the dealer code, country code, and date as the X431 says. All these information together transforms into a code to login.
But if the customer chooses the ”5pin code” menu,he does not need to input other information, thank you."
Haven't tried it myself Shazam, but worth a shot. Let us know how it turns out!
That was the Magic Bullet Mr. G. Use the 5 digit code and Viola! Login success. Once in, I followed the factory procedure to turn the cruise control feature back on and all good now! BTW, I did notice that if I happened to punch in the wrong login # and got a "login failed" message, that I had to cycle the key off and then back on, and then attempt a correct login # otherwise, even if the correct login # is entered, it will still reply "login failed". However, cycle the key, put the correct # in and Viola, Login success each time.
